About Us

Like school teachers, our Boone County library operates with limited resources. That’s where Friends of the Library help out. We work hand-in-hand with the library administrator to prioritize how we allocate the funds we derive from the following sources:

  • Book sales -our primary source of income, and we hold several throughout the year.

  • Memberships

  • Donations

  • Valentine’s Day Bake Sale

  • Silent auction – a desirable like-new book on display at the library goes to the highest bidder.

  • Trolley books sale - come into the library and browse a selection of good books available at bargain prices.

  • Raffles

  • Third-party book sales through Better World Books online bookseller

What else does FOL do?

  • Our small team of members delivers books twice monthly to homebound patrons in our community.

  • A rotating fresh assortment of age-appropriate books is supplied monthly to preschools throughout Boone County.

  • We pick up collections of donated books at private homes or left from estates.

  • FOL is more than willing to partner with literacy initiatives in the community. One such project involves working one-on-one with literacy challenged students to help them prepare for the GED exam. For information, please contact President: Carol Harris at 909-744-2394 or email at president@folbc.org.

  • Our newsletter “The Bookplate” is issued quarterly.

Where does the money go?

Among other miscellaneous expenditures benefiting the library throughout 2024, Friends of the Library allocated:

  • $8,000 for the purchase of new books

  • $1500 for summer programs for children

  • $300 for the children’s 1000 Books Read Program

  • $400 for the genealogy department.

FOL also helps out with the cost of building and ground repairs/improvements as needed.
